Beginner’s Guide

This is the perfect place if you are just getting started in the game. The following articles will provide you with the basics you will need to begin your adventure in the world of Aion.

Getting Started

Game Login

From the login screen you can also adjust the Options for the game.

> Account/Password - Enter your Username/Password and click OK to login.

> New Account - In case you have not created your NCsoft Account yet.

> Options - Offers various options for Graphic and Sound Settings.

> Credits - This plays a short video, which rolls the Game Credits. Press the Esc key at any time to exit.

> Quit - Closes down the Game Client.

Enter your Account Name and Password and click OK to continue. This will take you to the User Agreement Page. Press I Accept to continue.

Server Selection

The Server Selection Screen shows:

> Server Name - Characters can only be played on the server in which they were created. Characters cannot be transferred to another server. The list shows the most recently played Server Name at the top.

> Characters - Lists the number of characters you have on that server. You can have a maximum number of 8 characters for the entire account.

> Status - The status indicated depends on the number of users on that server. Status can be:

> Low

> Medium

> High

> Down - Under Maintenance

Highlight the server you wish to play on and click Select Server to continue.

Select Race

This is actually a very important step and you may wish to read up on Aion Lore before making this decision. Once you choose your race on a particular server, you will only be able to create characters of that race on that server.

If you would like to venture to the other side, you will need to choose a different server for that race. You can also delete all of your characters on a server to start over with Select Race.

Elyos:

We are the Elyos, the rightful lords of Elysea, the lower half of the shattered world of Atreia.

Like the Ancient Atreians, we dwell in light and warmth and our culture is rich beyond compare. We are blessed with elegance and beauty, and our skin with warmth and radiance.

The gloom-cursed Asmodians dwell in the upper half of our world. Since the Cataclysm they have become fierce and bestial, with pointed claws and manes. Their bodies are muscular and monstrous, and their eyes glow red when they are roused to anger.

Asmodians:

We are the Asmodians, the inhabitants of the upper half of the shattered globe of Atreia. Our world is harsh, but we are strong and adaptable.

To help us survive, our nails became pointed claws and we developed manes on our backs for warmth. Do not anger us, for we show no mercy to our foes.

The sun-blighted Elyos infest Elysea, the lower half of Atreia. Those clawless little lordlings see themselves as the true descendents of Ancient Atreians. However, the ancients would be ashamed to see how weak and puny they have become.

When you are ready, select a race and click Next to continue.

Select Class

Elyos

> Warrior: Warriors specialize in close combat, utilizing their great physical strength and prowess. They exhibit a wide range of dazzling battle skills other classes cannot perform, though Warriors are relatively easy to play.

> Scout: Scouts provide the best variety of play styles of all the basic classes. They benefit from great agility and can make speedy attacks, though how well they perform varies, depending on the player. The Scout is an extremely versatile class.

> Mage: Mages rely on their mastery of magic to deal large amounts of damage at long range. They are comparatively weak at close combat, and it is important for them to learn how to divert and evade the enemy.

> Priest: Priests specialize in healing magic and can use long-range spells to help allies and hinder the enemy. While Priests are more than capable of engaging in melee combat, they can use healing and protection spells to aid allies in battle.

Channels

Channels are an important part of Aion and knowing how they work from the beginning can be a great asset when the time comes. Here are a couple of examples of when changing Channels is very useful:

1) If you enter the game and find that it’s a too crowded for your taste.

2) You are trying to locate a friend and they are invisible (you can whisper them, join a group, and find them on the World Map; but you can’t see them).

Group List and Map Show Channel Info

You can find out what Channel your friend is on by doing one of the following:

> Send your friend a /whisper and ask what channel they are on or you can:

1 - Invite your friend to a group using /invite.

2 - When their information appears on the Group List,

hover over their Class Icon and it will tell you what

Channel they are on.

3 - Once you are grouped you can also open your World Map (M) and mouse over their location, the blue diamond,

and it will display their Channel number.

Changing Channels

1) Click on the Golden Up Arrow, Menu (F10), just to the right of your Quick Bar

2) Select Support > Change Channel

3) The Change Channel window will appear at the top-right of your screen

4) Select the desired channel from the drop-down menu and click Move

Adventuring

The most amazing part of the game is the adventure. You will hear the stories of many, lend help to those in need, right the wrongs of the past, and fight many battles.

Here are some of the basics you will need to get started on your adventure.

One of the first things you see when entering the game, is a

Quest NPC with the blue arrow icon above his head.

Right-click on the NPC to bring up the Dialogue Box. If the NPC had an icon above his head, the Dialogue Box will list any available quests.

Click on any New Quest to receive relevant information. Once you get to the page displaying rewards, click on Accept. This will place it in your Quests window (J). You can have up to 30 quests at one time.

Campaign/Quest related Icons:

Gold = Campaign | Blue = Quest

The NPC has a Campaign/Quest for you

The NPC completes an objective in a Campaign/Quest

The Campaign/Quest is complete and can be turned in to the NPC

Targeting & Combat

Targeting

Pressing the Tab key will automatically target the closest enemy. A glowing red circle will appear below the target.

You can also left-click on an enemy to target them.

Combat

Once you have an enemy targeted, you can use the right-click of your mouse to begin auto-attacking or Skills from your QuickBar to begin.

> The enemies Status Bar will display at the top of the window

> Your Status Bar will display next to your character image in the lower left hand side of the screen

> Your QuickBar is centered at the bottom of the Screen. Active skills will be grayed out if they cannot be used.

> Your chat window will display the Damage received and inflicted

Looting

After you have defeated your enemy, it will fall to the ground and begin glowing blue.

You can right-click to bring up the loot window or you can use Shift + right-click to automatically loot all items.

There is a looting action skill that will be in your QuickBar by default or can be added at any time.

Gathering

There are a good number of things you can gather in the game -- from fruit baskets, grain sacks and other things lying on the ground, to different plants, fruits, and minerals.

As you run across these items, right-click to start gathering. Make sure not to activate any other skill or move your character as that will interrupt your gathering.

You will increase in skill the more you gather and will use that later in the game on higher level gathering items. You can monitor your Collecting skill under the Crafting tab of your skills window (K).

Pathfinding

Aion has a location system to help players find NPCs and specific locations. You can use the pathfinding system through your Mission window (J) or by using the pathfinding command: /pathfinding <target name>

-- Example: /pathfinding Elpas or /pathfinding Aldelle Village

Using the Quests Window:

> Open up your Quests Window (J) and click on a Quest in yellow letters. This will bring up the Quest Description.

> Words that are in blue can be clicked to bring up the Dictionary. When the Dictionary is brought up there will be a Locate button at the bottom.

> Clicking on Locate will bring up the World Map with a purple X marking the location. For easier navigation, press (N) to bring up the Transparent Map.

Interactions

With a simple right-click you can interact with just about anything in-game. You can interact with NPCs standing around, Vendor and Quest NPCs, Monsters, other players, items, and crafting stations.

This section covers interacting with Vendor NPCs and Learning New Skills.

Vendor NPCs

Vendor NPCs offer items and services that you can buy. Some of them even allow you to sell items from your Inventory. These NPCs will display a label underneath their name letting you know what services they provide. Some of the common vendors are:

<General Goods Merchant>

<Armor Merchant>

<Weapons Merchant>

<Soul Healer>

To purchase from a vendor:

1) Right-click on a Vendor NPC to open up dialogue. Within the dialogue box, there should be at least one selection to choose from, such a Buy Items.

2) Select Buy items and proceed

3) This will bring up the Shop window, which displays all goods offered by this vendor.

4) Right-click on any item and you will see it added to your Shopping Cart.

You will also see the amount of Kinah you posses and the Total cost of your items at the bottom of the screen.

5) Click on Buy at any time to complete your purchase.

6) You can now open your inventory to see that the purchased items are there and can either be used, stored, or placed in your QuickBar.

Training NPCs

When you reach Level 3, you will automatically get the quest ’A New Skill’ which will direct you to the nearest Training NPC.

After you complete the mission, Right-click on the NPC again and choose Buy Skill Manual

.

Skill manuals available to you should be towards the top of the list and the ones not available will be red. Hover over the Skill Books for more information.

1) Purchase any skills available to you and close out dialogue with the Training NPC

2) Bring up your Inventory (I) and you should now see the skill manual(s) there. Right-click on the skill manual to activate the skill.

3) Now, open up your Skills Window (K) and the new skill will

appear under the Active tab. You can now click and drag the

skill to your QuickBar for use.
